QotD: Happy Earth Day

[this is good]
True. The effect of the individual is peanuts compared to the impact of the large businesses and corporations.....they should really be the ones putting forth the extra effort first and foremost. I could try to live as environmentally low-impact as I possibly could until I'm a canvas shoemaker working by candlelight out of the car-less garage of my sod home, and still have less global effect than a downtown office building turning all its lights out between the hours of 2 and 5am every morning. Or one courier company switching its fleet vehicles to hybrid.

Or a Wal-Mart NOT having a 24-hour workday so we can buy forced-labor inland Chinese-imported crap cheaper, earlier.
Apparently my company is as eco-friendly as it can get and is pushing to be more green every year. I do believe it, to some extent, since they are Japanese owned, and that is a big deal to their culture. Unfortunately, they are by far the minority. Not everything can change from the ground up. It takes top down effort as well. It doesn't help that politicians use it as a bludgeon instead of an instrument of change. To that end, very little gets done.
