Things have been fairly quiet as of late, but I've been keeping a little busy.
1. I've re-entered the Navy reserves. I get a lot of questions about whether I'll be deployed or not. It's doubtful, since my specialty is submarines, but I'm an officer. If anything I'd be deployed for IA duty to augment logistics personnel. While that might entail weapon and equipment familiarity, I'm not trained for personnel combat. Duty is duty and I'll go when I'm called. Regardless of whether or not you think it's right, that's why you're here to vote people into office who can properly oversee military strategy.
2. I've put up a prologue of some artwork here. It's not very good, but the link is still up if anyone wants to look at it. Going back over it, I'm not happy with the way it's done. I'm just not very good at inking. Still, I've decided to keep at it as a matter of practice. And besides, I like telling stories with pictures. Here are some sketches:
4. I need to get more stories out of my head. So next month I'll be writing a screenplay for Script Frenzy. Compared to nano, 100 pages of screenplay is going to be a piece of cake. It's far more sci-fi than the novel from last fall. It's about Mars, colonial upheaval, friendship, mathematics and the discovery of something alien. If anyone is interested, I'll post whatever I write. I don't care much if I sell it. Just want to write it.
I'll keep you posted!
Hmm. I'm having export issues (Flash doesn't look great and Quicktime doesn't work right on a PC) and since Vox doesn't believe in .pdf files, here's a link to what I've been working on. If you get a chance to read it, let me know what you think so far (good, bad, indifferent). Feel free to share.
I don't think I'll be inking much from here on out. I'm just not that good at it, and I get very sloppy (you can see the progression as the images go on). For the most part, the images looked pretty good in pencils, so I might go with that and some color wash this next time around. I'll let you know how it turns out.
I'm out of practice. Hopefully another chapter next week!
Watchmen tomorrow!
Not that anyone has really noticed, but I haven't been posting much, and honestly, it's because I don't have much to say.
I don't talk about politics because I don't like to talk about politics. Neither candidate excites me because I know it's not the candidates that drive the country. It's Congress that makes the laws, approves budgets, and creates 'financial crisis' funding that (surprise) still includes pork barrel items. If you think the 'administration' is where the problem is, you need to take a closer look at the Constitution. There are only two elected officials in what is called 'the administration' (that is, the President and his cabinet). There are 535 other elected officials in the legislative branch. That's all I'm going to say about it.
I've been working on art for the last few weeks, and since I've been listening to old radio broadcasts (purely for no other reason than curiosity and they are free via podcasts), I've been spinning a yarn in my own head. Here are a couple of mildly interesting sketches of the main protagonists.
And the latest, a cover sketch that will be worked into a final, old poster style comic intro page.
I suppose I should've posted this during the weekend...
M. and I went to the Met on Saturday to check out the Medieval Treasure Collection and the Superhero Fashion Exhibit. Frankly, the latter left a lot to be desired. It was an interpretation of comic superhero themes into fashion. While a few ideas were very intricately worked, most were clearance rack display items. It's art and it's interpretation. You'll get something different from it than I will, but that's what I got from it. So, we wandered around past the Treasure Collection and happened on the American Landscapes section behind it, finding some phenomenally beautiful wall sized paintings like this one. Afterwards, we spent the better part of the rest of the afternoon wandering aimlessly through Central Park, enjoying the scenery and watching the activities. It really reminded me of my old college quad, magnified a hundredfold - people everywhere doing whatever they felt like doing out on a gorgeous day.
Yesterday we took some indoor rock climbing lessons. While it was a bit tiring, I am in better shape to climb than I had thought. Since we have a free week of membership, I'm going to be sure to head back a couple more times before the end of the week.
I've really been into it this weekend. This one's not inked, and it's really some practice in form and musculature. It needs work, but it has some nice parts. The upraised arm and upper torso are really good, though I can't say much for the head and neck. Too long for the position his head is in, I think. That can be fixed, though. Enjoy and critique.
