After sitting at the airport for a about 4 hours I've finally made it to Dallas (again).
I hoped I could get a chance to see the scenery while I'm here. I might get a few hours on Friday but it won't be long.
I'm again at a low point in my blogging. I'm not one who just writes whatever, yet at the same time there's plenty I could be talking about. I'm sure plenty of you would be bored about what I would talk about.
My job is going alright, but you start getting that long distance point of view after being in a job for a few months. It pays well and life goes on, but there's no excitement and not much challenge. I suppose that's the same with most jobs.
So, I've started working on a few things. I'm elbows deep in Cocoa and Programming for mac OS X, trying to get involved in developing applications for the mac and (more importantly) the iPhone. I think it's a pretty cool programming platform and it has huge potential. I have a Blackberry and it annoys me how often that the system just freezes while it's downloading messages. If you're trying to look at your calendar, good luck navigating until it's done. Maybe I can do something challenging, like starting my own company. That would be cool. Also, I've dug out my sketchbook over the last few weeks. If I have anything interesting I'll throw it up for you all.
We're also debating on going to Bermuda for vacation. Has anyone been there? What do you think? Has anyone been there?
Real quick review:
Alright, time to head to work.
I found this while digging up some of my oft-used dashboard widgets. "Chuck Norris doesn't go hunting. Chuck Norris goes killing."
Alright, Thunderball is back online. I have a few more programs to put on her to bring back to where she was when her hard drive died. She's purring like a well oiled machine, and, oddly enough, she sounds just a little different. Her hard drive sounds different. It's kind of weird to think that you tune yourself to the way things sound. Actually, that's not weird. There was many a time when I was on my submarine and I could audibly sense something change, which often precluding a drill or casualty. Right now, I'm happy to have the sound of a running hard drive over a beeping broken one.
The Good: ifixit.com rocks. I recommend this site to anyone who wants to replace something in their mac. The instructions are straight forward and focused on the task you're looking to do. It was worth tinkering under the hood of the laptop to see just how small and tightly organized things are. You're never going to learn something if you don't do it yourself-- especially if you use tech but don't quite know how it all works. I'm ready to put the jalopy pc back into the closet. Actually, I think I might wipe the drive and sell that, too. Get the right tools, too. I got the right ones, which kept me from stripping screws and ruining successive upgrades.
The Bad: I went with the same size hard drive. I probably should have gotten a larger one, but since there maybe a Thunderball successor in the near future, it didn't quite seem worth it.
The Ugly: I'm getting a LOT of interference on my wireless router now. I'm going to have to work with the settings to put it on a channel with the least amount of interference. The router is about 8 feet from where it used to be, but I'm having serious trouble getting a decent signal from my guest room/office/batcave.
And you have a Mac, you should check out Scrivener. I've been playing with it for a few days, and (although I like it) it outpaces MacJournal in a couple of areas. I like being able to rearrange thoughts and re-order events, then see how they collide together. Slick!
